Welcome to Lyn
Advance is delighted to welcome Hygienist Lyn Hinde to the practice.
She is an experienced Hygienist with a gentle touch, and we are pleased to be able to offer her a position at our practice.
To find out more about her, why not read Lyn's profile on the 'About Us' page. She will be initially working Wednesdays with us, but she is keen to increase her hours as soon as we can accommodate her.
Lyn is keen to build strong relationships with her patients, and very much works to the philosophy of 'tailored treatment to you individual needs'
Chernobyl Children
For the second year now we have given dental care to 12 children from Chernobyl who come to England to stay with volunteer families in Somerset for the summer.
Life there is still very poor and difficult following the disaster many years ago.
Access to dentistry is nigh on impossible so at Advance we were delighted to spend a morning with these amazing children, teaching them how to look after their teeth, and providing any treatment required.
Prevention is best
At Advance we work hard at educating our patients to prevent problems before they arise. We therefore stock a wide range of dental products for our patients to purchase at very reasonable prices. We can demonstrate the products and talk you through an achievable daily routine.
Children's dental health is also of great importance, and for most parents a complete mine field. Food & drinks containing sugar can be very misleading making choices difficult.
Tooth whitening
Due to a meaningless wrangle about the licence for professional tooth whitening products (simply put the 'powers that be' cannot decide whether to call it a cosmetic or a medicine!) the dental profession has been strongly advised not to use this technique until the issue has been ironed out. They anticipate this to be sometime in 2007.
In the meantime our advice is not to seek treatment elsewhere, as anyone else other than a dentist providing this type of treatment is breaking the law on two accounts. Also these materials really should be used only in the hands of a professional.
Rules to follow:
1) Avoid food & drink containing sugar between meals. Give fruit, vegetables, plain crisps, cheese, sandwiches etc as snacks. Milk or water to drink.
2) Read labels on food & drinks to look for sugar content
3) Assist children with toothbrushing twice daily
4) Visit the dentist at regular intervals
